Sometimes, I already know the water is going to spill. A child is working with a pouring activity, and from where I am standing, I can see that the pitcher is not quite over the bowl. Maybe they are pouring too quickly, or their hand is moving just a little too far to the side. I can see the spill coming before it happens. Of course, my first instinct could be to say, “Careful!” or to step in and move the pitcher. But I try not to. The water spills, and the child looks at me.
